11-MLP Series
The LIT 11MLP series is the newest UV disinfection equipment and incorporates the latest advances in high power germicidal UV lamp technology, electronics and hydrodynamic modelling. The compact modular design of LIT 11MLP system allows engineers to configure UV systems according to customer specific requirements providing most cost effective solutions.
Open channel architecture with minimized head losses and enhanced hydraulic parameters makes 11MLP series suitable for installation in wide ranges of existing Waste Water Treatment Plants with minimal civil construction works.
Application field data
LIT 11MLP UV systems are the ideal choice for disinfection of secondary and tertiary treated wastewater effluent. The horizontal parallel flow, open channel system design is developed to comply with various water quality standards for surface water discharge and re-use of waste water. The flexible modular design of the 11MLP series allows UV disinfection technology to be used in a wide range of flow capacities, for waste water stations of small communities to large-scale municipal WWTPs serving urbanisations with several thousands up to millions of people worldwide.

UV Modules
LIT 11MLP UV disinfection systems have a modular design for flexible, easy system integration, installation and operation. Developed for installation in an open channel, the 11MLP system can be provided in numerous configurations.
Each 11MLP UV module comprises of high power low-pressure amalgam lamps arranged in two vertical columns. The UV lamps are electrically and thermal isolated in quartz sleeves which are placed in a horizontal position, parallel to the wastewater flow in the disinfection channel. UV modules can be removed from the bank independently from each other by hand or with an auxiliary hoisting device.
UV lamps
All open channel UV modules are equipped with germicidal UV lamps based on the latest UV lamp and ballast technology. This leading edge lamp technology is developed by LIT engineers especially optimized for water disinfection applications. This amalgam high power, high intensity lamp provides three times more UV intensity than conventional mercury low-pressure lamps. LIT amalgam lamps have long service life: more than 12.000 hours of continuous operation. High maintenance of the UV-c radiation power over the lamp life and increased stability against water temperature variations guarantee an effective disinfection performance.

Ballast cabinets
Electronic ballast cabinets are installed near each UV bank above the channel. Each UV module is connected to the electronic ballast cabinet through a set of waterproof connector plugs. High efficiency electronic ballasts are installed inside the cabinets. Each cabinet has a small LCD display to provide the information about UV module and UV lamp status in each respective UV bank. The ballasts are designed to comply with various electrical power distribution networks and have a high power factor.
Operating and Control system
The operation of the UV plant is guided through a Control Cabinet on using an industrial PLC system. The front of the cabinet is equipped with a graphical user interfaces to control the UV system, which can be operated both in automatic and manual mode. All operational data from the UV system can be transmitted to the main WWTP SCADA using standard industrial field bus communication. The Control System incorporates a data logging function for recording all operating parameters.
UV sensor
Each bank of UV plant is equipped with two UV-radiation intensity sensors. The UV sensor measures the UV intensity inside the UV bank, converts the analogue signal to a UV intensity value which is transmitted to the Operating and Control system.
Automatic level control system
Each disinfection channel is equipped with an automatic level control system. It consists of a motorized slide gate mounted at the channel outlet, PLC controller and ultrasonic and/or variable-capacitance water level sensor. The level control system assures proper water levels are maintained inside the disinfection channel at 0-100% flow variations. It prevents overflow and guarantees that all water will be treated properly without by-passing the UV modules.
Chemical cleaning system
The 11-MLP UV system is provided with a chemical cleaning system for the quartz sleeves in each channel without the necessity to remove the UV modules from the channels. All lamps in a channel being treated are cleaned simultaneously. During the cleaning period a UV channel is closed and water effluent passes through the remaining channels. The cleaning system consists of a tank, for preparation of the cleaning solution, a circulation pump, a system of stainless steel pipes and switching valves.
Alternatively for projects with a limited number of modules, the chemical cleaning can be done using a mobile cleaning tank. The UV modules are placed in the cleaning tank and then the cleaning solution is recirculated through the tank.
Mechanical cleaning system
Due to the nature of the application the treated water contains relative high levels of suspended solids, therefore the 88-MLV is equipped with an automatic mechanical wiping system. This system is cleaning the quartz sleeves without having to remove the UV modules from the channels. Such cleaning prevents quartz sleeve fouling during UV system operation, it removes deposits from the quartz sleeve surface by mechanical wipers which are moved periodically along quartz tubes. The wiping frequency can be adjusted through UV system control. The pneumatic cylinders are powered by air compressor with receiving tank.
Additional components
- The 11MLP UV system includes a mobile frame to fit the extracted modules for service works (e.g. lamp replacement). Each frame is designed to support 2 lamp modules for service, cleaning or storage.
- Flow Equalizing Gratings
With space limited conditions, when the channel length is restricted, or a strong preferential flow patterns in the channel inlet exist, stainless steel gratings with profiled holes are installed at each channel entry to provide a better water flow mixing and distribution across the channel. - Channel Cover Plates
when operating, the channels with UV banks are covered by profiled zinc galvanized iron plates.
